Alani Myrtel is a 22 year old female from Coruscanti descent. Ever so curious, she left her safe abode on the planet Coruscant, where she lived with her parents, to explore the wider Galaxy beyond the Imperial sectors. Currently, she finds herself working for the military of One Nation Under Jou, after having been impressed by their sense of selflessness.

Description
Alani is a relatively short Coruscanti woman. She is usually found wearing either a comfortable tank top-and-jeans or brandishing a more professional dress or suit. Her natural hair color is brown, but she has taken a liking to dying her hair, usually in a dark color.

From young age, Alani never really did interact much with non-humans. Living on the upper layers of Coruscant and being influenced by her father and the general Imperial society of upper Coruscant, left her to develop a natural wariness against aliens. As time went on, after her departure from the city-planet, she slowly eased into the idea of working together with the other races and organizations, but a general preference to work with humans over aliens stayed. During her travels, she started believing the Imperial influence of her father was not necessarily the best course of action. She gradually formed her own, more neutral standpoint and opened up to the views of other organizational or political bodies. This noteworthy change in her views let her to view the galaxy, and most notably the Empire's enemies like the Jedi Order, in a more passive manner. She realized that the Imperial propaganda against the Jedi was mostly just that, propaganda. Her now more neutral standpoint made way for the possibility of future cooperation.
Alani is a relatively short Coruscanti woman, standing at 5' 6" tall (167cm). Off-duty, she can often be found wearing casual clothes, such as cargo jeans, tank tops, and loose shirts. However, in public she presents herself more professionally, in a dress, suit or uniform. Her natural hair color is brown, but much to her father's chagrin, she was known to dye her hair all sorts of colors in her youth. Her complexion can be described as 'pale but not too pale', and her natural eye color is blue.

Generally, you can view Alani as someone who values order and justice. However, that does not take away her natural curiosity. She did try to maintain a clear separation between her work and private time. Her private, sometimes drinks-induced, escapades and frivolous interactions with both genders were to stay private as much as possible.
Due to her upbringing in the planetwide ecumenopolis, Alani never extensively interacted with non-humans. Living on the upper layers of Coruscant, and growing up under the Imperial influence of her father left her to develop a natural wariness for aliens. Once she departed from the city-planet in Year 22, she had no choice but to cooperate with other races. As such, she started to tolerate them, and finally started to accept them for their usefulness in their own fields of works. By then, she used to say <em>"Sometimes, you need to accept that a Class C may possess the ideal skillset that is needed for the job."</em> Her preferable work partner was still a human one, though, and she was never able to shake off the unease when looking at aliens such as the Baragwin or Hutt. This initial shift of her views let her to view the galaxy, and most notably the Empire's enemies like the Jedi Order, in a more passive manner, realizing that the Imperial propaganda was just that: propaganda. However, this passiveness reverted back to the largely Imperialistic view when Alani's ex-girlfriend Nari Noble died in Year 23.

It was partly because of this that it took her a while to find a partner, as she was not actively searching for one, believing that <i>"it would happen naturally"</i>. This mentality did get shaken as she met Nari Noble. Something about her fragile but playful and determining personality hit Alani, and as they started talking, something cliqued between the two. One spicy seafood pasta and cheesecake-infused date on Year 22 Day 149 later, Alani asked the daring question that led to them having a relationship. They had a wonderful relationship together, but unfortunately they turned out to not be on the same wavelength. After having talked it through thoroughly, they decided on Day 319 it would be best for them to continue on as close friends. The duo would still communicate on a regular basis, and have each other's back when needed, and their time together was certainly not wasted. They were glad to have closed their story on a high and warming note.
Generally, you can view Alani as someone who values order and justice, with a generous natural curiosity.

A New Soul
A New Soul
Only two weeks after the official Imperial declaration of war on the Rebel Alliance, on Year 0 Day 14, Alani was born in a Coruscanti hospital to Amy and James Myrtel. Despite the expertise of the Imperial medics that were, at the time, stationed at the hospital, a complication occurred because of Amy's medical history. The mother suffered from an early stage of brittle bones and during the birth of Alani, she fractured one side of her pelvis. A C-section was suggested but was ultimately denied. This left Amy with lingering stability issues. Alani herself was declared healthy after a thorough inspection.

Despite the expertise of the Imperial medics, Alani's mother had a complication during childbirth resulting in a pelvis fracture. The medics were initially forced to perform a C-section, but the stubborn mother denied. With a stroke of luck, Alani was birthed healthily. Amy, however, was left with lingering stability and walking issues for the rest of her life.

Alani and her family had the luxury of being decently-off, living in a family apartment on one of Coruscant's upper layers. Free from most petty crime of the lowest layers, the Coruscanti was able to enjoy the comforts of a well-educated childhood. In the following years, she followed a minor management course, with her free time being spent taking care of her mother. Over the course of those years however, those duties slowly began to fall on droids, with Alani being more interested in going out enjoying the nightly life of the mega-capital when she reached adulthood. It was at this time that she learned she was attracted to both genders. Unable to stay attached to to a person for too long, she decided to not commit to a relationship until she had found the one. Her taste was specific, perhaps too specific.

The Father that Looked
James, Alani's father, was an honest believer of the Imperial morals. Being an ex-trooper, he had his fair share of combat experience. At the time of Alani's childhood, he was employed by a private security corps outside the system. Due to this, he was away from home more than he was not. When his job did allow him to take a few days off, James spent his time at home, enjoying the company of his family. It did not take long for Alani to get interested in James' job. Whenever he sat down and talked about his duties, she sat there next to him, glittering, listening carefully. Alani developed an interest in the security work and some of the Imperial stances started growing inside.

Sprouting Views
Sprouting Views
The girl formed her views from both her father and mother, her father's Imperial upbringing and her mother's kindness. Both traits made for a mix that was Alani's. While living on Coruscant, she did not interact with many 'aliens', most of the places she went to were populated mostly by humans. This noninteraction, along with the general segregation that many may think of when thinking about an Imperial society, made her naturally wary of those not like her. While not wholly denying to do business with non-humans, she would think twice when dealing with those who bore little resemblance to the people she grew up with.

The logical route after having been trained in blaster combat, would be to join the Imperial Army. Much to James' disappointment, Alani did not yet choose to do such a thing. She felt that it would be better to travel the galaxy, and get some real life experience first. The Empire would still be at the back of her mind though. It took quite some time to convince him, but James finally saw the pros in this decision. After all, as Alani liked to put it, <br><center><i>"The more experience I gain, the better chance I'll have at enlisting in the Army."</i></center>And so she left a few months into Year 22, after having said her goodbyes. Originally, she was meant to go to the Venaari system to rendezvous with a potential employer at Lone Star Industries, but after some internal struggles, she decided to set course for the Avindia system instead. While an employment at LSI could have been a gateway to a high ranking position within the company, the involvement of the company with the former crime lord duo, and with its former shell, Exelis Runners, would make for less-than-ideal circumstances for Alani to join.
One could say that the logical route after having been trained in basic blaster combat, would be to enlist and join the Imperial Army. Much to Alani's father's disappointment, Alani chose not to follow this path, deeming herself not yet fully ready to commit to the Empire. She felt that is would be better to first travel the galaxy, to get some real life experience beyond the Empire's influence. The Empire would surely still be at the back of her mind, and her father would make sure to remind Alani not to aid the enemy. It took quite some time to convince James, but he finally saw the advantages in her decision. After all, as Alani would put it, <em>"The more experience I gain, the better chance I'll have at enlisting in the Army."</em>

After having said her goodbyes, Alani would leave the Coruscant Sector in Year 22. She would move from system to system, looking for any decent leads towards a well-paying job. Eventually she found a advertisement of Lone Star Industries, originating from the Venaari System, but was unfortunately quickly disappointed after some research, ultimately not pursuing the ad after certain allegations came to light about the staff of Lone Star. Apparently the company registrars had ties to the then-defunct Exelis Runners&mdash;which in turn was a cell of the Exelis Crime Syndicate&mdash;and criminal Xyre Weltmon.

Glacial Distress
<div style="margin-top:-0.4em;"><small><em>Approximate galactic date: Year 22 Day 80-90.</em></small></div>

Moving on, she stumbled upon a promising ad, leading her to the Avindia system. Once closing in on Polus's orbit, the situation took a turn for the worse: Bandits had attacked a YG-4210 freighter, which was forced to send out an emergency message and land on Polus. After an indecisive moment, Alani diverted her course to the current origin of the distress signal. At the location of the signal, plumed of smoke billowed from the beleaguered vessel. A firefight ensued between the bandits and Alani's crew.

Glacial Distress
Unbeknownst to Alani, a Defender-class designated <em>Crusader</em> had also picked up on the distress signal. The arrival of the <em>Crusader</em> had marked a turning point in the battle. A calculated touchdown between the bandits and the attacked vessel positioned the Defender-class as a protective shield, shielding the vulnerable spaceship from further harm. Swift and precise deployment of ground assault squads, equipped with heavy weapons and jetpacks, caught the bandits off-guard.

~Year 22 Day 100
The engagement unfolded rapidly, with the jetpack squads descending upon the bandits and providing the needed firepower. Meanwhile, the long-range squad provided suppressing fire, ensuring that the bandits had little to no room to maneuver. The well-coordinated efforts of the Crusader's forces prevailed, quelling the threat posed by the bandits. The crew of the Crusader served under One Nation Under Jou, who were on a mission in the system. This event unexpectedly forged an alliance, with Alani eventually diverting towards the Morobe system to enlist in the neutral nation's forces. Passing the hundredth day of Year 22, Alani found herself employed as an officer cadet.

On her way to Polus, Alani caught wind of a distress signal coming from an unknown YV-variant freighter. With no known Imperial military presence in the system, all she could do was either ignore the cry for help, or try to help in a way. Either way, she needed to go to Polus as well, and she too could be a victim of the same bandits if nothing was done about them. After an indecisive minute, she altered her course and went for the designated coordinates. She did have a mercenary with her, but if things became too hot, she could always try and fly to the nearby capital.
Revelations
<div style="margin-top:-0.4em;"><small><em>Approximate galactic date: Year 22, Day 295.</em></small></div>

Going down to the coordinates mentioned by the distress signal, it became increasingly clear that the YG-variant was indeed assaulted by another party, made apparent by the smoke coming from the vessel. Next to it stood a VCX light freighter, but there was no sign as of yet of any ground movement. With the landing gear down, Alani's 578-R Space Transport touched down on the snow-covered glacial ice. After having opened one of the boarding ramps, Alani carefully looked outside towards the VCX and YG. It did not take long for the bandits to open fire, forcing her to reenter the ship. It only went down south from there. She ordered Terek, the mercenary, to hold the ramp while she was about to overlook the situation from the dorsal latch on top of the ship.
Alani, at the time a Second Lieutenant within One Nation Under Jou, was stationed aboard the Defender-class Light Corvette <em>Templar</em> during a flight from Morobe to Nimban. As the vessel approached its rendezvous, the 2LT's thoughts dwelled on a peculiar event from the previous day. The Templar suffered from some unusual hyperspace turbulence, resulting in a wrongly-fastened crate falling on top of her. With no space to duck away, Alani instinctively raised her hands in an attempt to 'cushion' the impact. To her astonishment&mdash;when she opened her eyes&mdash;the crate had not impacted her. It remained in the air, defying the artificial gravity in the cargo hold. This inexplicable incident left her with lingering question, so much that she decided not yet to report the incident. A glitch in the artificial gravity systems, as local as that, would be nigh impossible.

Going up the ladder, she opened the latch and carefully looked out of the ship, she had a clear aim at one of the about five bandits and opened fire. Hitting one of them by surprise, Alani went back down the ladder, leaving the hatch open. Blaster fire ricocheted off the hull. She waited until the barrage of plasma concentrated on the lower entrance again before peeking out, only to be met with the view of a bandit aiming a rocket launcher at the side of the ship. Darting down, Alani clamped herself onto the ladder. All she could do was shout <i>“IMPACT!”</i> and hope Terek would have noticed as well. A second passes and the duo is met with the ear-deafening sound of a rocket hitting the ship.
As the <em>Templar</em> approached Nimban, Alani prepared herself and her squad for the arrival of Lilith Delcroix, monarch of Vorsia Companion and leader of One Nation, whose security was partly her responsibility. Their encounter took an unexpected turn when the monarch sensed a connection to the Force within Alani. Alani would later be summoned before her in the Templar's chapel. Here they discussed the Force, with the Coruscanti recounting her incident in the cargo hold. Lilith offered to asses Alani's Force sensitivity, and explained the potential dangers on an untrained Force user. Alani agreed, and this encounter marked the beginning of her journey towards harnessing the Force.

As the loud ringing in her ears subsided, it was made apparent that the bandits were now focused on something else. The scene was disturbed by the sound of a large spaceship approaching and leaving. A fight emerged with the third party, and it was made clear that all ships were to stay put, as the large ship kept circling the area. The fight outside was over as quickly as it started, with the Space Transport being hailed by the circling ship. <i>”This is Commander Lindemann of Defender-class Crusader. Identify yourself.”</i>
A Darker Side
<div style="margin-top:-0.4em;"><small><em>Approximate galactic date: Year 23, Day 297.</em></small></div>

This event established Alani's thoughts on Morobe's governing body, and paved the way to her joining them shortly after. If it was not for the One Nation military, she would have been stranded on Polus for months, or worse, dead.
Alani never really was religious, so to say. She believed in results, in physical objects, things she could see or sense. This did change a bit with the incident at the end of Year 22. One spot she was found regularly though was the temple area of Illumine Palace in Moroa. A place with a peculiarly serene aura, despite the many visitors, despite the fact that at that day the Guard’s alert was heightened because of a visit of some Red Lotus emissaries. One of the pros of the Palace was the fact that no one really disturbed you unnecessarily. After all, what if you were praying?

Revelations
Ever since she found out she had the Force on her side, she would spend a portion of her free time attuning to it. Nothing serious: most of the time it would be meditation of sorts, nothing flashy. She was compelled to learn more from it, for she felt something was missing. So far, it had led her to a number of pieces of a sword of light scattered around the system, a tool similar to what her Lordship would wield. Incidentally, during her meditation or sleep, she would see light flickers, as if passed through an orange-hued crystal. Sometimes, a jolt of electricity would tingle from her fingertips, an unpleasant feeling, perhaps a way of the Force to say ‘enough!’?
~Year 22 Day 293

(To be added.)
On Year 23, somewhere around Day 297, that same invisible energy made Alani’s eyes jolt wide open as she was standing in the Palace’s halls. As if someone gut-punched her out of the blue, she dropped her datapad and heaved for air. Picking up the computer, she locked herself in a nearby bathroom until the nauseating, unpleasant feeling went away. Minutes passed, the sickly feeling still present. Flashes of that same orange she used to see during her meditation appeared before her closed eyes. Something was wrong, very wrong. Her ring-necklace felt abnormally warm to the touch. The feeling ended with an image of a familiar Hapan woman. As a tear rolled down the Coruscanti’s cheek, a feeling of despair, death, and depression overwhelmed her, followed by sadness as she washed her face with cold water.

Service Records
This moment marked a change in Alani’s alignment, with Nari’s demise having reached her through the strings of the Force. Perhaps not an entirely rational one, but a change it was.

Never Far from Home
<div style="margin-top:-0.4em;"><small><em>Approximate galactic date: Year 25, Day 240.</em></small></div>

Now comfortable for a while as a Captain in the Moroa Guards, she had some time to reminisce about her past on Coruscant. In particular about the promise she made to her father. One day she would return, when she deemed she had gotten enough ‘galactic’ experience. The recent One Nation move towards the Confederacy might have accelerated her decision-making – perhaps unfounded – yet she refrained from jumping ship abruptly. Just after an important delegation mission on Moroa, Alani started taking the necessary preparations for her departure.

She knew she was about to forego a considerable amount of freedom, on several fronts, but it was for the best. After informing the Crown and attending a last ceremony, she made her way to her Sprint-class to head back to orbit. Flying at a steady high orbit off of Morobe was a considerable fleet of both One Nation, Confederate, as well as her own ships. The Sprint was heading towards the nearby Corona-class frigate to offload some cargo and to gather Alani’s belongings. The crew of both the frigate and the star cruiser would have to be put on minimum for quite some time; at least enough to defend themselves and to keep everything alive. It would not be the wisest of choices to arrive in Prakith with a small armada, lest the next thing she would own would be an artificial asteroid field. Ready for takeoff, she said her last goodbyes and initiated hyper travel. The Academy was not far away, just shy of two days, the perfect time prepare herself.

“Captain’s Log, well… I guess it is not ‘Captain’ anymore. Personal Log it is.”

Alani Myrtel is a 26 year old female from Coruscanti descent. She left the Coruscant sector in Year 22 looking for work and to expand her knowledge and experience about the space beyond. She used to work as a captain for the neutral nation of One Nation Under Jou, in the Morobe system. Now she finds herself back home, serving the Empire as a member of the Imperial Stormtrooper Corps.

Description

Alani is a relatively short Coruscanti woman, standing at 5' 6" tall (167cm). Off-duty, she can often be found wearing casual clothes, such as cargo jeans, tank tops, and loose shirts. However, in public she presents herself more professionally, in a dress, suit or uniform. Her natural hair color is brown, but much to her father's chagrin, she was known to dye her hair all sorts of colors in her youth. Her complexion can be described as 'pale but not too pale', and her natural eye color is blue.

By then, she used to say "Sometimes, you need to accept that a Class C may possess the ideal skillset that is needed for the job." Her preferable work partner was still a human one, though, and she was never able to shake off the unease when looking at aliens such as the Baragwin or Hutt.

Generally, you can view Alani as someone who values order and justice, with a generous natural curiosity.

Biography

Upbringing

A New Soul

Only two weeks after the Imperial Declaration of War against the Rebel Alliance, on Year 0 Day 14, Alani was born in a Coruscanti hospital to Amy and James Myrtel.

The Years Ahead

Alani and her family had the luxury of being decently-off, living in a family apartment on one of Coruscant's upper layers. Free from most petty crime of the lowest layers, the girl was able to enjoy the comforts of a well-educated childhood. In the following years, she followed a minor management course, with her free time being spent taking care of her mother. Over the course of those years her caring duties slowly began to fall on droids. Alani was more interested in going out enjoying the nightly life of the mega-capital when she reached adulthood. It was at this time that she learned she was attracted to both genders. Unable to stay attached to to a person for too long, she decided to not commit to a relationship until she had found the one.

It did not take long for Alani to get interested in James's job. Whenever he sat down and talked about his duties, she sat there next to him, glittering, listening carefully. Alani developed an interest in the security work as the Imperial doctrine started growing inside.

Sprouting Views

The girl formed her views from both her father and mother: her father's Imperial upbringing and her mother's soft and kind approach. Both traits made for a mix that was Alani's. While living on Coruscant, she did not interact with many non-humans, most of the places she went to were populated mostly by humans. This non-interaction, along with the general segregation that many may think of when thinking about an Imperial society, made her naturally wary of those not like her. While not wholly denying to do business with non-humans, she would think twice when dealing with those who bore little resemblance to the people she grew up with.

New Experiences

Departure from Coruscant

One could say that the logical route after having been trained in basic blaster combat, would be to enlist and join the Imperial Army. Much to Alani's father's disappointment, Alani chose not to follow this path, deeming herself not yet fully ready to commit to the Empire. She felt that is would be better to first travel the galaxy, to get some real life experience beyond the Empire's influence. The Empire would surely still be at the back of her mind, and her father would make sure to remind Alani not to aid the enemy. It took quite some time to convince James, but he finally saw the advantages in her decision. After all, as Alani would put it, "The more experience I gain, the better chance I'll have at enlisting in the Army."

Apparently the company registrars had ties to the then-defunct Exelis Runners—which in turn was a cell of the Exelis Crime Syndicate—and criminal Xyre Weltmon.

Glacial Distress

Approximate galactic date: Year 22 Day 80-90.

Unbeknownst to Alani, a Defender-class designated Crusader had also picked up on the distress signal. The arrival of the Crusader had marked a turning point in the battle.

Revelations

Approximate galactic date: Year 22, Day 295.

Alani, at the time a Second Lieutenant within One Nation Under Jou, was stationed aboard the Defender-class Light Corvette Templar during a flight from Morobe to Nimban. To her astonishment—when she opened her eyes—the crate had not impacted her. It remained in the air, defying the artificial gravity in the cargo hold. This inexplicable incident left her with lingering question, so much that she decided not yet to report the incident. A glitch in the artificial gravity systems, as local as that, would be nigh impossible.

As the Templar approached Nimban, Alani prepared herself and her squad for the arrival of Lilith Delcroix, monarch of Vorsia Companion and leader of One Nation, whose security was partly her responsibility.

A Darker Side

Approximate galactic date: Year 23, Day 297.

This moment marked a change in Alani’s alignment, with Nari’s demise having reached her through the strings of the Force. Perhaps not an entirely rational one, but a change it was.

Back to her roots

Never Far from Home

Approximate galactic date: Year 25, Day 240.
