Background

In Year 7 , explorers discovered the Csilla. The 12 Colonies was the first major power to establish diplomatic relations with the native Chiss. According to local accounts, the 12 Colonies defended Csilla from a Vagaari attack and as thanks, a merger was negotiated between the local Chiss Government and the 12 Colonies. The result was the Chiss Ascendancy. The 12 Colonies did have a friendly diplomacy and agreements with the Galactic Empire. Also a Chiss House leader, Mitth`oro`Nuruodo, was an Imperial Moff who made frequent visits to the homeworld to monitor his investments. This caused New Republic and the Anti-Imperial Galactic Alliance to now view Csilla as another front in the Galactic Civil War.

The assassination of Chancellor Isoldor Storm, leader of the Chiss Ascendancy and the ultimate collapse(or reformation) of the newly restored Chiss Ascendancy into Black Nebula invited further concern of instability. Chiss refugees living in New Republic space joined other New Republic citizens called for liberation, while the rest of the Chiss diaspora remained apolitical about the issue.

The New Republic had already declared war on the 12 Colonies in 8 CGT with Operation Forging Freedom, taking the Wookie homeworld of Kashyyyk. The New Republic mobilized for a new offensive.

Aftermath

The Battle was considered concluded when the New Republic secured enough loyalty among the Chiss cities and established a shield protecting a planet. Neither Black Nebula, nor its successor, the Old Republic ceded victory to the New Republic. Between Year 9 and Year 12,there remained a significant amount of cities that were controlled by when both sides reached a settlement resulting in the Old Republic withdrawing their claim and transferring claimed territory to the New Republic.
