Prelude
The backdrop of the Battle of Kashyyyk was the Second Galactic Civil War, specifically the battle between the Rebel Alliance and the Galactic Empire. According to the Galactic News Sources [1], Wookies were repressed on Kashyyyk under the government of the Galactic Empire, preventing the indigenous Wookies to hunt, build and live their traditional existence.
One of the more infamous events was the massacre of Wookies on Kashyyyk by the Galactic Empire, which had become known as the 'Black Forest Massacre'. According to various news sources Cite error: Closing </ref> missing for <ref> tag. Consequently the massacre is remembered by [Wookie|Wookies] and sentients alike on Black Forest Day[2].
It was this event which became the justification for the New Republican forces to attack the Galactic Empire in a fight that was aimed to liberate the Wookies from Imperial control.
