Prelude
The backdrop of the Battle of Kashyyyk was the Second Galactic Civil War, and specifically the war between the Rebel Alliance and the Galactic Empire. According to the New Republic and its allies, the sentient Wookies were repressed on Kashyyk. One of the infamous events was the massacre of Wookies on Kashyyk by the Galactic Empire, which has become known as the 'Black Forest Massacre'. This has become a day of rememberence by some sentients in the galaxy as[1]and referred to as Black Forest Day. It was this event which had become the springboard for the New Republican forces to attack the Galactic Empire in a fight that was aimed to liberate the Wookies from Imperial control.
